Initiatives
Overview
Under the leadership of Mayor Cory A. Booker, we understand that becoming the "model for urban transformation" means responding to the needs of our residents and partnering to create unique programs within our City. In addition to our primary practice areas, we also produce the following programs and initiatives:
Current Initiatives
Financial Helpline
During the week of February 22 – 26, 2010, over 50 financial service and planning professionals will volunteer their time and expertise at City of Newark’s Non-Emergency Call Center from the hours of 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Residents are invited to dial-in with personal finance questions ranging from issues with credit cards, mortgages, loans, investing or debt reduction.
Past Initiatives

Halsey Street Block Party
Historic Halsey Street is one of the most electric neighborhoods in Newark, featuring fashionable boutiques and exquisite restaurants. We partnered with local fixtures including the Newark Museum and GlocallyNewark.com, as well as with Mayor Cory A. Booker and the Municipal Council, to offer three evenings of art, movies and music showcasing this hot downtown district. Residents and visitors alike were treated to live local acts, locally-filmed movies and vibrant Newark atmosphere.

Farmers Market Initiative
From June through October 2009, BCDC hosted one farmer per month at one of ten Family Success Centers throughout the City. Our team partnered with the City of Newark’s Family Success Centers and Bank of America in an effort to expand access to locally grown fresh food for Newark residents and support farmers within our region. Participating Farmers (Garden State Urban Farms; Liberty Farm; Naturally Grown Gardens) accepted a variety of incentives included Food Stamps, WIC Farmers Market and Seniors’ Vouchers.
