Overview

During the past decade, Newark has undergone a remarkable transformation as an urban area with a rich concentration of world-class sports, entertainment, performance and museum facilities. An abundance of downtown parking and mass transit options, coupled with vibrant dining and nightlife scenes, have turned the city into a mecca for people in search of arts, culture and entertainment. Anchors include the following:

Prudential Center

Known by locals as "The Rock," this state-of-the-art arena is home of the National Hockey League’s NJ Devils and college basketball powerhouse, the Seton Hall Pirates. The seating capacity of 18,000 includes 76 luxury suites for watching everything from concerts to games in style.

New Jersey Performing Arts Center

Since its debut in 1997, NJPAC has single handedly changed the face of downtown Newark. The $180 million center draws more than 600,000 patrons each year to its two theaters and welcomes a steady stream of big-name performers ranging from Yo Yo Ma to Queen Latifah. Home of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the center also offers free live concerts on its outdoor concourse during the summer.

Newark Museum

The largest museum in New Jersey, Newark Museum encompasses an experience like no other with 80 galleries of world-class collections positioned to inspire and motivate it’s visitors. With exhibits ranging from African and Asian to American and Classical. The Newark Museum has so much to offer with an abundance of animals in their Mini Zoo to the Planetarium waiting to take you to the stars. The Museum also provides a café and shops for souvenirs and a magnificent sculpture garden in which to relax and enjoy the day.

Riverfront Stadium

Nicknamed "The Den" soon after it opened in 1999, this waterfront stadium is home of the Newark Bears baseball team. The 6,200-seat stadium features 20 luxury suites, a picnic area, deck and concert stage.

Newark Symphony Hall

The famed Newark Boys Choir call this historic hall home. Located in Lincoln Park since 1925, the building features a 2,800-seat multi-use theater, along with a 1,000-seat auditorium and small theater spaces.

Red Bull Arena (Harrison) Eastward over Jackson Street bridge

The Red Bull Arena soccer stadium is currently undergoing construction to establish this venue as a state of the art soccer stadium opening in March 2010. Now the home to the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer (MLS), the Red Bull Arena is equipped with various unique attributes producing a premier North American soccer venue.

For residents and visitors alike, Newark offers nearly endless options for dining and nightlife. At last count, downtown had more than 75 restaurants, with more on the way every day. Some two dozen eateries line the main thoroughfare of the city’s Ironbound District, which is famed for its Spanish and Portuguese cuisine. Bars and clubs are also sprinkled throughout the city, making for lively options for after work and after dark.
