City Of Newark One Of Three Cities In Nation Selected To Host US/Portugal Business Development Trade Mission —April 16, 2012

Mayor Cory A. Booker, East Ward Council Member Augusto Amador, Brick City Development Corporation (BCDC) CEO Lyneir Richardson, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Senior Vice President for Research & Development Dr. Donald H. Sebastian, NJ U.S. Export Assistance Center Senior International Trade Specialist Susan Widmer and Portuguese American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey President Pedro Belo welcomed Ambassador of Portugal to the U.S. Nuno Brito and U.S. Ambassador to Portugal Allan J. Katz to the City of Newark during the “Doing Business in NJ Symposium,” which was held on Monday, April 16, at the NJIT Student Center Atrium. Newark, Miami, and New York City, are the only three cities in the nation selected to host the U.S./Portugal Business Development Trade Mission.

Mayor Booker Cuts Ribbon To Open New Food Depot Supermarket In Newark's Central Ward—February 28, 2012

Mayor Cory A. Booker, the Newark Municipal Council, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Brick City Development Corporation Chairman Adam Zipkin, Brick City Development Corporation CEO Lyneir Richardson and Food Depot owners Orfilio Chaviano and Nick Gonzalez III held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the new Food Depot Supermarket, located at 75 First Street, in Newark’s Central Ward. Also in attendance of the event were State Senator Teresa Ruiz, Council Members-at-Large Carlos M. Gonzalez and Luis A. Groundbreaking Commences Construction Of Teachers Village; Mixed-Use Development Calls for School Building, Daycare, Teacher's Apartment, 70,000 SF Of Retail—February 9, 2012

Mayor Cory A. Booker, the Newark Municipal Council, Governor Chris Christie, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Adam Zipkin, Brick City Development Corporation CEO Lyneir Richardson, RBH Group Managing Member Ron Beit, Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., Lloyd Blankfein, Berggruen Holdings President Nicolas Berggruen; and Newark-born and nationally renowned architect Richard Meier broke ground today on Teachers Village, a mixed-use development in downtown Newark that will create three new schools, a daycare center, more than 200 moderately-priced rental apartments for Newark teachers, and more than 20 on-street retail establishments which will include restaurants, medical offices and local and national stores. Other attending guests included former Governor James Florio, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Assemblyman Albert Coutinho and Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer.

Damascus Bakeries Breaks Ground In Newark—October 18, 2011

Damascus Bakeries, the commercial baking company in Brooklyn, NY that is relocating to 60 McClellan Street in the Newark, NJ Urban Enterprise Zone, broke ground on its 117,419 square foot industrial building about a mile from Newark's Liberty International Airport. The company will bring over 180 jobs to the city.
